Effect on Google?

Postby hammertofall on Mon Apr 07, 2008 11:56 am

I'm hosting with Yahoo, which is US owned (based?) and wondered whether having a US host made any difference to my Google Search results - anybody shed any light on it?

Provided your website is written in English then it won’t really make any major difference, the key is whether or not people are reading and spreading the links to your site, gaining you a higher pagerank. Without this it doesn’t matter where you’re hosted, it’s how popular the site is that counts. Localisation only really comes in if your site isn't written in English.

I have found that a UK domain is ranked by Google as a UK site even if hosted elsewhere (US) but a .com site is not. Use UK hosting for your com domains!
